BFF5ever

OMG I AM SUCH AN AMAZING PERSON. I’M SO MUCH FUN TO HANG OUT WITH.

I’m the friend you can paint the town red with but also chill with on the couch, cup o’ tea in hand.
(wine in the other)

We can go on a tastebud adventure all around the city or scoot to the bodega ‘round the corner, grab an assortment of Cheetos, and break down the cheddar- like flavor notes.
(The Flaming Hot Cheeto Puffs were very disappointing, but I will save that for another day)

If you have a deep dark secret, I won’t tell a soul- including my reflection.
(I might tell my mama tho)

Feeling down and need a big dose of encouragement? I am thee hypest of hype girls!
(Go look at my sisters’ IG comment section for reference)

Oh, you wanna go key some-triflin'-body’s car?!?! *twirls keychain*

You wanna pray about it? Sis. I got the anointing oil and prayer cloth ready.
(bows head, bends knees)

BIIIIIIIIIIIIG BEST FRIEND ENERGY OVER HERE

I am Angelica. Angelica is me.

And you know what? I’m learning to keep that same energy with myself. So when I want to go out but can’t find someone to go with/ a friend cancels, I’ma still have fun.
When I’m feeling like unfiltered, cold-pressed, organic sh*t, I extend patience to this girl and allow her to feel what she’s feeling and offer her reassurance that she is worthy of [real] love + all good things.
Anyhoo, I took myself on a hot lil' date last week to go see one of my fav artist’s exhibition, Protect Black Women at The Bishop Gallery in Bedstuy. The artist, Wavy Wednesday, was sitting on a bench minding her own business while I was at war with myself.
“Do I say hello or should I just keep it pushing?” (Y’all, I’m hella introverted around strangers. Like... hella.)
Yay me, I found the courage to say something useful! She’s so chill and was a little bashful as I ooooozed about her work. Her art centers around black women and the micro- and macro-aggressions we encounter in our everyday lives from our hair to our safety. I wasn’t about to miss seeing her work up close just because I didn’t have a friend to go with. Guh! [country slang for girl]

Black Girls Matter

Listen, I plan to have no behavior and cut aaaaallll the way up this summer with my girls (#hotgirlsummer!), but I'm also going to make sure honor my whims and enjoy the company of my ride or die: moi. *kisses mirror*

No more! Baby, I'ma do right.

2020 sounds so futuristic, bruh. I remember being a pretty young[er] thang back in ‘05 and comparing my state ID card with one of my lil’  teenybopper friends. Her ID expired in 2009 and mine in 2010. We busted out laughing because that sounded soooooooo far away. And now that expiration moment was a decade ago. Like, what is life? On the gram there were lots of reflective grids and posts about where someone was at the beginning vs. the end of the decade. It’s fun to see the transformations and crazy how much your life can change in the span of ten years. Day to day can feel like life isn't really moving, oooooh but it is. While we’re still in the mode of setting goals and resolutions for the new year, I’m sitting here thinking, " Wow, the older you get the more reasons you have to talk yourself out of making your dreams a reality ." Bills, rent (shiiiiiiiiiiiedt. Again?!), societal comparisons, other people’s expectations, etc. try to gang up on you to ...
